His focus
This is his whole life it comes
down to this for him. It what keep him going through school and through life. It
helps describe him and explains why he acts the way he does it has been his
driving force in life.
I
decided to use this picture for a few reasons other than I like the picture and
thought that it looked cool. The picture is completely blurred out except for
me. This is to symbolize that almost everything in my life is focused around me
and wrestling. With almost every choice I make how it might affect my wrestling
is the question in the back of my mind. Wrestling has really helped shape me as
a person. I feel the picture and the flash fiction build off each other it helps
you get a better understanding of why I chose the picture.
Personality is made up of many different aspects of your
life. Many of the experiences in your life help shape the person you are and
why you may act the way you do. That’s why I feel like you can change yourself
and your personality.
I think
many different things play a role in making up your identity such as
experiences you had growing up how we were raised, and different activities
interest we are involved in as kids. For me the biggest interest I had was in
wrestling this sport had really shaped a lot of aspects in my life. The sport
has made me not only physically but mentally stronger. One thing the sport has
taught me though is to never just judge someone’s ability based on the way they
look. I have wrestled kids who did not look very good but were great wrestlers
and vice versa. In the ted talk with Verna Meyers she says, “Biases are stories
we make up about people before we even know who they are”. Before wrestling
someone you might think that he looks like he is good or better than you and
lose the match before you even start. Wrestling has taught me you need to treat
everyone as just another person and I think that aspect has carried over in to
my everyday interactions with people.
How
much control we have in shaping our identities or personalities is a question
of opinion. I personally feel as if it’s something in life in some aspects we
do have some control over. For example, we can’t control how a person acts
towards you and how you feel about your interactions but you can control how
you are going to respond to this and how it is going to affect you. This person’s
actions might even affect you very deeply but you can choose weather or not its
going to affect you as a person or if you’re going to take control of yourself
and respond the best way you possibly can. But in the instance of the
transgender kids from the documentary growing up trans they did not have any
control over why they felt uncomfortable in the body they were born in. But
they were in control of what they wanted to do about how they felt. This is
something I think they can not change because most of the kids would choose to
not have to go through all the things, they must just to be themselves if they
didn’t have to. Feelings are something that just happen and you can’t really
control them the thing you can control is how your going to react or respond to
these feelings and I think this makes up a big part of who we are as
individuals
i like the way you made the flash fiction and portrait build off each other. i also really like your intro sentence for your they say i say
ReplyDeleteI really like how you talk about having wrestling shape you into who you are because I feel like every time you see a wrestler you can tell just by the way they carry them self's.
ReplyDeleteYou tied your flash fiction into your self portrait really nice that was cool. I related to this story a lot I also think that sports have a big impact on who I am today and also shaped me into who I am today. Good Job man this was really good.
ReplyDeleteThe flash fiction and your picture fit together very well, I also like the shortness to the flash fiction because it gets to the point quick and it's easy to understand. Why do you enjoy wrestling so much? I also really like your reflection, it it very well put together and easy to read. I think you did a really good job!!
ReplyDeleteYour flash fiction and self portrait come together and connect in a nice way. Its cool to see how a sport like wrestling can shape someone into the person they are everyday and I agree that with your they say I say that you cant just count someone out by their physical appearance because you can still get beat.
ReplyDeleteI feel like the portrait really goes well with the flash fiction. I feel that same way with my sports and how sometimes they are the only things that keep me going in life.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you tied your reflection in with real life situations and why biases matter and how they affect the life we live.
ReplyDeleteYour reflection piece was well written and informative to read. I agree that many things play a role in shaping our identities. I can see in these pieces you are passionate about wrestling and I am the same way with soccer.
ReplyDeleteI liked how you connected your picture with your flash fiction. Also your they say/I say is good.
ReplyDeleteI liked how well your portrait and your flash fiction connected. The wording in your flash fiction describes the level of dedication you have towards wrestling. Overall this was a great blog and a great read.
