The Bounce Back

Your team is one minute away from winning the game, your team mate passes you the ball at the sideline when a defender is closing in fast as you received the ball. When you go to pass the ball the defender steps in front of the pass and takes the ball as you are running down the sideline to try and catch up to the player with the ball. As he is getting ready to shoot the ball you catch up to him and get the ball before he can shoot the ball you take it from him and you pass it to your teammate who took the ball and kicked the ball all the way down the field so then the other team cannot get the ball back down field and score. As time ran out you team won the game.
The picture that I picked is a picture that I picked because it shows that when you get beat you have to get back in front of what is in front of you. The picture is a picture of me when I was playing soccer and I got beat but I had to try and get back in front of him. The reason that I picked the picture I did was to show that even if you get beat you have to compete to get back in front.
The flash fiction that I wrote is about in a sports game or even in life when you get beat you have to give it your all to try and win. The relationship between my picture and my picture is that they both show that you must compete to be able to win even if you get beat. They both lend power to each other because the picture is a visual representation of my message.
When it comes to the topic of bias many people want to believe that they don’t have any biases but, most people have at least one bias. Most people say they have no bias, but they have an implicit bias that they don’t know that they have. Most people believe that they don’t have any biases because they think that biases are bad when they are not always bad, sometimes biases are bad to have.
In the ted talk “How do we overcome bias?” by Verna Meyers she said: “Biases are stories we make up about people before we even know who they are.” (Meyers) This shows that even if you are not aware of it you are judging people before you even get to know them. In her ted talk she says that “70% of white people taking the implicit bias test prefer white and 50% of black people taking the test prefer white.” (Meyers) This says that people believe that people that they don’t know are bad people and they don’t want to take the time to get to know them. She explains that biases are a bad thing because you think that you don’t like someone before you even get to know them.
When it comes to the topic of bias, I agree that biases are bad to have and sometimes you have biases that you don’t even know that you have. I agree with it because I have seen when people have a bias against a certain person. When it comes to bias there can be a lot of emotion that comes with it.
Tyler, I like your flash fiction and I agree that even if you get beat you have to bounce back and get on top of it in life. This is easy to connect to because I've had similar feelings in my life when my team has lost a game or even life in general. I also like your picture as it is a visual representation of you getting the ball back and it connects to the flash fiction even though you had it taken from you.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to this because I play multiple sports and I've had some obstacles in the way.

DeleteI really liked your message and how you portrayed your connection with the picture of you playing soccer. I can relate to this because I'm an athlete and we all face hardships in life or in a game/meet but those help us grow and become stronger and basically shape us.
ReplyDeleteI liked how you explained everything that was going on in the game in your flash fiction, it really engaged me in every word that you were saying. I also play soccer I really understand what players can go through on and off the field but you always got to keep your head up and just try and move on. Really enjoyed this good job!
ReplyDeleteI like how your picture is a representation of actually "bouncing back" and relates very well to your message. It seems like something that you are passionate about and is very well written.
ReplyDeletetitle falls closely related to your story. your flash fiction has a way of keeping the reader on the edge of their seat, as if it were them playing the game and not the author.
ReplyDeleteI can personally relate to your story as I used to play soccer and whenever I would get the ball taken away from me I would track that player down no matter his position on the field. You did a great job explaining the whole scenario and it made me feel like I was in your shoes. The way your picture and your story connects it is flawless. Overall this is a great blog and a good read.
