distance
Mind is wandering but your feet can
just go so far.
Artist Statement: Ever thought
about going so far, running away, seeing new things and visiting new places? My
picture shows me in the train station wanting to go further then where my destination
would take me. Just to see new things and different people. I picked this
picture because it shows me doing something that I love which is traveling but
I can’t go as far as my mind is telling me to. The relationship between my text
and picture is me doing what I like best but not going as far as I want to. I
have come to believe that people bias is the same as their perspective.
Reflection:
I say, things aren’t often what
they first seem and there’s always a different perspective. When I was younger
my sisters, mom and I got into car accident on our way home from church. I had
big plate of brownies on my lap thinking I was going to home to eat it. But
things didn’t go as plan due to the car accident it dropped. I really wanted to
eat that brownie. That car came out of nowhere the way I seen it was it
could’ve been going straight while my mom was trying to take a left and crashed
into her it all happened so fast. My mom told the officers that she didn’t
remember how it went and all she knew that she was turning on a green light.
The person who hit my mom car said that my mom was wrong and that she hit him.
It could’ve been because I was young, I seen it a different way then the other
driver or even my mom. Or my mom doesn’t remember everything that happened
because she was the driver and could’ve lost control or a thought because
everything happened so fast. Or even the driver because of the position he was
in he had to speed and didn’t see my mom trying to turn. This what I mean about
things aren’t often as they seem and there’s always a different perspective. We
all were thinking about different things and seen it happen differently. But
then there’s really what happened which is what people don’t usually see.
Society says everybody should have
a choice for themselves as for who they want to be. I say its today generation
that allows kids to be transgenders. That why kids and all feel unwanted of who
they really are. In Ariel story “Growing up trans”. Talks about how Ariel was
born a male but always had the female in her. She was scared for her classmates
to see her out of school because she would dress up in princess customs when
going out. Ariel grandmother would call her a different princess name every day.
She moved schools after she transformed into a girl. To prevent being bullied
by kids she grew up with and knew the real her. Her new friends later figured
out and accepted her for who she wanted to be. “I feel left out when my friends
talk about having baby’s’’. Due to the fact Ariel was a transgender she can’t
have kids in the future and it hurts her. She couldn’t even do things other
females can do makes her feel left out. I say it was her fault even worst her
parents’ fault for even paying for the job to be done. Now she can’t do nothing
the person she wants to be can even do because if she was to still be a boy,
she would be able to have kids. I disagree with the whole kids turning into
trans thing because I feel like they’re to young to do anything to their body’s
that could cause them their life’s. Yet even prevent them from doing things
their actual gender could do. But if that’ll make people feel better with
themselves and prevent them from hurting their self even more then I’m fine
with it.
Your flash fiction and artist statement really appeal to me. I feel the same way as you do. I have so many things I want to see and do in this world.
ReplyDeleteyou did good job with flash fiction and artist statement. I have same dream like you to visit new place and meet new people. I like that you put personal experience about accidence.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your writing, i liked that you made it personal and used experiences that you have been through. Your picture is the first thing that drew me in, the editing that you did to it was really good. I assume that your writing applies to many people because many people want to see more of the world and enjoy their life to the fullest.
ReplyDeleteI like your artist statement because it talks about traveling. Traveling to different country is my biggest dream. I also liked how you use the car accident you had as your example because that shows we all have different perspective.
ReplyDeletePrecious,
ReplyDeleteLike many of your peers, I can totally relate to wanting to travel, escape, explore but feeling limited to my feet (or more realistically my bank account...).What station were you at? Where were you going? Where would you go if your feet COULD take you there? Hm.
I thought your example of the car accident was a great way to connect concepts about bias. What really happened that day of the accident? We will never know. But you remember your version of that reality. The focus on the brownies was really telling too. We tend to pay attention to, well, the things we pay attention to and that drives what we "see."
Thanks for sharing this part of yourself, Precious. Here's to your feet! I hope they take you where you want to go in this world.
