Life's Regrets, Advice, and Truths

Being weird can be a good thing in life. You may be misjudged by your randomness, but that is just one of your perks.
Learn to live life to the fullest and remember the best moments you’ve had. Those memories bring back your beautiful smile.
If you ever fall in love, be confident in your choices. If they don't like you for who you are, then they are not worth the time to spend.
Remember to not bury your feelings inside. It will cause a lot of a mental toll on your life. You are strong, kind, independent and cheerful. You have always taken care of others dilemmas and replacing it with your kindness. But you do not understand why they never had done the same…You long for finding that special someone in your life. You know it takes a lot of obstacles to go through and it won’t be done in one night. You can be stressed out at times due to all the work you were given with deadlines. You tend to put others before your needs and you are generous to people who are important to you.
If only you were treated kindly, things might change down your path through life. You understand all the sadness in this world had to offer, and you hate the world for what it has done to you. Be happy even if it is a sad time in your life that you had to go through. Maybe someday, the light will show you something to look forward to. Rejection can hurt in more ways than one, no one understands you, unless there is someone.. Please don’t be weak in dire situations. Do something to find a solution to it. Be confident in the things you say. You are your own person so don’t let a person control you in any way. If you play your cards right, good things can come to those who do and to those who wait. Beauty is not on the outside, so do not let others discriminate you for that. You are beautiful just the way you are, and don’t let words go through your head no matter how far. Express your imagination and do not let others hurt you anymore. Be yourself and nothing more.

Artist Statement

This story is about what I have told myself when I was hurt by another person. The events of being bullied had happened to me for about 13 years now, and this piece described on what I had told myself so I can hide that pain. It has helped me a lot throughout the times when I felt sad or upset.
Since people don’t exactly see what I go through or even realize who I really am,
I used this story to add in those thoughts and facts to describe myself.
The picture at the end of it comes to play too. The flower filter indicates how kind I am to others, and how strong I am in emotional terms.
I figured something nature like for this photo because beauty comes from the inside, not on the outside. Due to my own ways of being random, I put on the headscarf of my costume for halloween. I did that because I get to show my real self when it comes to that day.
These two work together by symbolism. The headscarf I have on and the rhyming that is present in the text,
symbolizes my passion of magic-like tales. When the story talks about relationships, I put my hand on my chest relating to my heart. My heart is full of love and kindness. My warm smile symbolizes the happiness I mentioned from my memories that brought me into happiness in the first place. The theme for these two is “ accept yourself for who you are and stay strong when times get tough”. This is the theme because of the theme because of the encouraging words that is spoken through the flash fiction. There is some rhyming that was un-intended but it works for this type of topic of a theme. Throughout this year, I have had a hard time understanding my personality and what is it’s perks. The Perspective part, I understood what it is like. With the bias, there were some tricky spots here and there through my work, but overall, at least I finally understood it all in the end.

Personalities and their identities
Personalities and Identities are related to the idea of a perspective. Based on our different personalities, we tend to have different identities. People think that a person’s identity is based upon how the person looks or what they have done. Apparently, that wasn’t the case. Identities are formed based on how you act. First off, it would be really bad if it was based upon looks. My identity was formed by my own actions and my personality. It doesn’t matter about your looks and how you are treated by that. It all matters on your personality and actions. This type of action leads up to our control we have for this action.
Secondly, sociologists question others how much of control we have on our personalities. Based on the TED talk personality myth, a documentary of audio that had been interviewing prisoners and people, shows that people actually have the upper hand when shaping their identities. Besides, no one controls anybody. What I have learned from the ‘Personality Myth,’ from the guy who was a prisoner was that in this society, “it’s not based upon our own personality, but our looks and what our records of crime were” (Personality). This statement shows us that  no one can control us for shaping our personalities. So it is based on us, our own choices and opinions, and how we view our lives. This leads to the final topic known as influence.
Finally, our personality is also influenced upon the choices we make. When we choose a good choice (for example: Helping someone who can’t go on), that amplifies the good nature in us. The more good deeds, the more compassion we gain from it. If there is a bad situation and you result to a negative choice, then more bad stuff can be a result and we gain the influence of negativity. In the personality myth, The prisoner who was interviewed told us that, “some people were in here due to the bad influence they’ve endured” (Personality). I honestly agree that some people were badly influencing their own children to grow up into people they weren’t supposed to be. For me, I was influenced in the right way possible and I became a shy, but a kind and loving person I am today. If only people would understand that it is quality of quantity, then maybe the world can be a better place.
In my own opinion, I think that no one can change the past of how a person was influenced. A person cannot change their personality because it is a part of who they are, no matter what. Some people in society today do not understand themselves or what they have done in their lives. In ‘Personality Myth’, one of the speakers mention to viewers, “no one can change themselves overnight” (Personality). This evidence proves my opinion that no one can change how they were influenced. It may take time, but it won’t be quick. People can start on a new page of their life, but they can’t fix the mistakes in the past.

  1. I think it's interesting how you used things you're wearing in the photo to represent traits or characteristics about yourself. I don't know if I would have mad that automatic association without reading your artist statement, but I think it was neat to add this in.

  2. First off, I want to mention that if you do need someone to talk to about anything I am always here to listen. Your story about how you are bullied yet still chose to be yourself is very inspiring. There is no reason you should feel like you need to change yourself for others, so I'm glad you don't listen to them, but they do need to be stopped and held accountable for being jerks! As far as your flash fiction goes, I love the message you are telling yourself: to be yourself. The one thing I don't like is how you mention beauty is on the inside and "it would be really bad if [personality] was based on looks." I know I really don't know you, but based on your self-portrait and flash fiction I can tell you are beautiful inside and out!! So keep being yourself!!!!

  5. I liked your story and thought your picture was nice. I loved one of your pieces because I know what its like to be bullied I was bullied for only 5 years but it felt like more. I loved your piece and when you said don't let others nock you down or make you not want to do things because you should not care what others think be who you want or who you are and don't let anyone say other wise.

  7. your first sentence caught my attention "Being weird can be a good thing in life. You may be misjudged by your randomness, but that is just one of your perks" I know we all have that weird side to us and that just makes us who we are. in todays world too many people are quick to judge and the result is bulling. if you ever need someone to talk to I'm here, I know we have choir together, just find me :)

  8. " If they don't like you for who you are, then they are not worth the time to spend". i really like this line. you wrote really nice flash fiction. By reading your flash fiction and artist statement, you look seem like very strong person because you have been bullied for 13 year and you choose to stay strong and be yourself no matter what.

  9. i like the message, "it's okay to be weird." if you're completely normal, you're actually a statistical anomaly

  10. I really like the symbol of kindness and uniqueness with your portrait, you are a very kind girl. "If they don't like you for who you are, then they are not worth the time to spend" is a very powerful line.
