Inconsistent Personality

Why try? Why should trying be happening at all? Why should everything that has been worked for exist? Why should it be played out loud? No one will listen. Words will be echoed, but she’s already gone. What was the want in it? What was the purpose? What the hell is the point of working for everything only to disappear in the end? How does what even is said affect the world? Why should she play out loud? No one will listen. Its worthless within the end of life.

Why try? Try because it will get you somewhere. Why should trying be happening at all? It should be happening because I want to try and have something worth the life I’ve had. Why should everything that has been worked for exist? It should exist because I want my life to be a story worth sharing. Why should it be played out loud? It should be played out loud because there’s always someone listening. I want my words to be echoed, I will never be gone, I will never be gone because words will always echo in those who keep the story alive. What was the want in it? The want was to create a life worth living. What was the purpose? To create a meaning in life that was always intended to be there/ What the hell is the point of working for everything only to disappear in the end? Stories never end, they’re always retold. How does what even is said affect the world? It affects the world with a new meaning to something, to the story of the entire world. Why should she play out loud? She should play out loud because its her way of telling the story of life, the life that was taken so soon from the world. She’s not just another story to the world to be forgotten, its her story.

Artist Statement:

                My self portrait is a picture of myself laying in the leaves, with my guitar and eyes closed peacefully. Myself, in the photo is black and white because sometimes we are seen as just another piece, another thing, and the leaves are colored because it shows that the leaves even in a time of death, are still beautiful. My Flash Fiction matches to my image through the idea that the questions asked in it is a battle happening within in the mind, and the answers are such as that just because the “story” is ending, doesn’t mean it’s done. The leaves are dying but it doesn’t mean that they’re gone completely, the come back every year, this connects to my piece by the idea that even though you say within your mind your done, done trying, done even living, done playing out loud, your story still isn’t over. The idea of personality and perspectives helped influence my self-portrait by the idea that our personality is influenced by our perspectives of different situations. The perspective we have over an issue, idea, topic, etc. influences our personality and how we portray it. Our personality is a complex thing, and sometimes not all of it is shown to people.

Personality

Many people believe that personality is chosen for us as we grow, and it stays consistent throughout our lives, but then how do we develop and change throughout our lives? The issue is we aren’t always consistent with our thoughts and actions, which can take affect and change ourselves. Personality is affected by choices made throughout our lives, changing who we can be and with it, our personality. Whether these choices are intentional or not, can still affect personality.

                With the idea that personality can change throughout our lives is shown within the podcast Invisibilia, within this podcast there is a discussion about how Delia goes to visit a prisoner named Dan, who committed a horrible crime of rape, but she saw this other personality within him that had no show of his crime. Within an interview between both Delia and Dan, it states, “You decided not to be that person anymore? Yeah I did ("Personality").” This shows that Dan had consciously chosen to change his personality, meaning he had to walk away from friends and even family he had come to known and be very close to. Also, within the podcast later, Delia was talking with a professional about how personality changes, this professional stated, “Across many situations criminals are criminals, honest is honest, however consistence wasn’t always found ("Personality").” This quote demonstrates how that even within a personality or trait, a consistency wasn’t always found within people. Another example is whenever we grow up becoming comfortable with ourselves: "simply growing older can mean significant personality changes. As we become more mature, we (usually) become more agreeable, conscientious, and develop greater emotional stability. Growing more comfortable with our sense of self, our personality can change as well to match how we see ourselves (Vitelli)." This demonstrates how we can just change without knowledge as we become more comfortable with ourselves and become who we are, creating a complex idea of our personality. 

                I agree that our personality can change with our choices whether it being intentional or not. Throughout my own life I have seen people change personality, even myself, change personality based on choices. Different choices can affect the change within personality. Within the Invisibilia podcast, researchers did a study showing honest of kids at home and at school, the results showed, "which is the same child who cheats for example, in their arithmetic class could be a fantastic student - no cheating and so on- in another class. They were not consistently anything. They were inconsistent with their honesty ("Personality")." It clearly shows that we aren't ever consistent with personality, and that we can willingly change. I have seen different choices and even my own choices change personality within myself or others. A personal example is my step sister, growing up she always believed that I ruined her life by taking away our father. I was the reason that her life was in a downward spiral of drugs, alcohol, and doing illegal things. Recently, she has noticed that it isn't me that ruined her life, but her choices into doing those things, and her own mother influencing her with her own choices into this life. She is now trying to fix everything and is going to therapy to get a better life willingly. She has made the choice to better her personality. Even though many people believe our personalities are consistent within our lives, our personality does change through a choice whether it was intentional or unintentional, conscious or unconscious, our personalities are a complex thing and change throughout our lifetime multiple times.
