Happiness
Jaydon Davis
Flash Fiction
I realize that I need to enjoy life. Even if things are falling down on top of me. I need to make a positive out of everything. Always.
Artist Statement
In my picture, I’m kneeling in leaves and I threw the leaves to simulate that things in life are kind of falling down on me, I kept a smile on my face to kind of say that I always find joy no matter what happens. I made the picture black and white because the picture doesn’t need color to explain the meaning behind it. The trees in the background with all of the leaves on it still symbolizes that there is still good things in life and that I can just look up and see all of the good things left in life. I want to communicate that when things are falling on you, always find some joy, smile in the darkest times in life. My flash fiction is pretty short, I wanted to make it short because I don’t need a lot of words to describe my personality. I also want to strengthen the message that no matter what happens in life that I can be happy and always just have a smile.
Reflection
Personality. There are a lot of different views about people's personalities and how they change, or if they can even change. Many experts say that personality doesn’t change, but also a lot of experts say that personality does change. So what is it? In my opinion, from what I’ve learned, is that personality doesn’t change, I feel like there are many reasons why they don’t change.
In the podcast “The Personality Myth” a man says “Attitudes change but personality doesn’t”, (“Personality”). I believe this is very true, you can make someone mad, but does that mean they have a different personality? No, they might seem like a different person for a little bit, but they will go back to the way they were before someone made them mad. If someone makes an angry person laugh, does that make them a good person? No it doesn’t. That’s a reason that I believe that personality doesn’t change. There is a story about a man named Dan, he is a man in prison, he did some bad things but on the outside of his crimes, he’s always loved to dance and basically was an artist, does this change because he was a criminal? I wouldn’t say so, and neither does the girl in the podcast talking (“Personality”).
I really believe that personality is super consistent, I’ve learned that in many ways it always stays the same. My personality has always been like a happy person, super determined and I never let things bring me down. I believe that my own personality will never change, along with everyone else’s personalities. Another big thing for why I don't think personality changes is that, I know a lot of people, and through the years that I've known them, their personalities never change, I just get more of an understanding to them as a person. Personality doesn't change, we just get to know people better through time, and it makes it seem like they're changing, but really you're just getting closer to the person.
The title "Happiness" really drew my attention and the photo was similar to my second choice for a portrait. Life is short and the portrait does a great job of portraying that and your upbeat personality. I found it hard to use a positive portrait but I think you did awesome. In your portrait, why did you decide to be on your knees? The phrase, "the picture doesn’t need color to explain the meaning behind it" caught my attention. Generally things in color are happier than things in black and white. However, I completely understand your point. The smile on your face and your body posture portrait your goal on their own. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI really like your flash fiction and your picture. I was surprised that your picture is in a black and white filter but its about happiness, I never would have guessed that but I either way I still like it. I have similar thoughts about your message and I feel like this is very easy for people to connect to.
